2009 USARA National Championship Qualifier

Texas Dare Adventure Race will be a 2009 USARA National Championship Qualifying Race. Racers will need a USARA license, which can be purchased on race day for $8.

Racers can choose from 2 events:

  • Adventure Race
  • Sprint Race

8 to 12 Hour Adventure Race

Teams of four will run/trek, bike, and paddle using topo maps and compass. The race will include approximately 15 miles running/trekking, 25 miles biking, 6 miles paddling, and a zip line. There will be no cut-off time. Each team must provide one or two boats, paddles, PFDs, mountain bikes, helmets, and all food and water for their own needs throughout the race. Awards will be presented to the top 3 teams in each division.

Divisions: Male, Female, Co–Ed, and Co-Ed Masters (each racer in the co-ed masters division must be at least 40 years old by race day)
Entry Fee: $360 per team

Mandatory Gear for 8-12 Hour Adventure Race
4 bikes, 4 helmets, 4 PFDs, 1 or 2 boats per team, 1 whistle, 1 compass, 1 utm plotter, 1 dry bag for cell phone, food and water for team, bike lights including a rear light, head lamp for navigation, first aid

2 to 4 Hour Sprint Race

Teams of two will run/trek, bike, and paddle. The race will include approximately 3 miles running/trekking, 12 miles biking, 1 miles paddling, and a zip line. Boats, paddles, and PFDs are provided. Each team must provide mountain bikes, helmets, and all food and water for their own needs throughout the race. Awards will be presented to the top 3 teams in each division.

Divisions: Male, Female, Co–Ed, and Co-Ed Masters (each racer in the co-ed masters division must be at least 40 years old by race day)
Entry fee: $90 per team

Mandatory Gear for Sprint Race
2 bikes, 2 helmets, running shoes, means of carrying something to drink

Race Rules
  1. Leave no trace. No littering.
  2. Must wear helmet any time you are on your bike.
  3. Do not try and out-smart race promoter. Follow the rules.
  4. All CPs must be obtained in order.
  5. No unsportsmanlike contact. DQ.
  6. All team members must be together at each CP.
  7. Teams must be within sight of each other at all times.
  8. Any missed CPs will result in unofficial finish.
  9. No GPS or pace counters. DQ.
  10. PFDs must be worn at all times while in boats.
  11. Bike lights required after 4 PM, if on the bike.
  12. Cell phones for medical emergencies only. All other use DQ.
  13. Protest must be made within 20 minutes of your team finishing.
  14. Lose your passport, double time penalty.
  15. Race Director and Promoter and one Racer will determine DQs.
  16. All time penalties will be 15 minutes each.
  17. No time cut off. Race until you finish.
  18. TA Support Crew - Yes, however, support may NOT plot points or help with maps. 
  19. Sections of the race will be on a private ranch, do not scare the livestock.
  20. All teams must use maps provided by race director. No outside maps allowed
